Cold-pressed dog food is a dry food that’s nutrient-dense – it is not the same as kibble! Unlike kibble, it is slow cooked at lower temperatures to preserve the maximum number of vitamins, minerals, and all-important flavour.
Why do we sell cold pressed dog food?
Every NAKEDDOG raw food recipe is made from 100% natural, high-quality ingredients and the same goes for our cold pressed range. We believe that raw food provides the most natural, delicious, and health boosting nutrition for your dog – but we also understand that feeding raw every day of the week isn’t always possible. And that’s where cold pressed comes in.
NAKEDDOG Cold Pressed food is the healthy alternative or accompaniment to our raw food because not only is it also natural, super-palatable, and free from grains and bulking agents, but it breaks down in your dog’s stomach in a way that closely mimics raw food. This means that you can switch from cold pressed to raw meals (and back again!) whenever you need to.
What does ‘pressed’ mean?
Pressed refers to the way that our naturally nutritious dry food is made. Instead of being cooked at high temperatures like extruded kibble (120° C to over 200° C) and oven-baked kibble (93° C to over 149° C), the ingredients – in our case, human-grade meat, vegetables and fruits – are dried, ground, mixed with a little water and then literally pressed together and slow-cooked at low temperatures (ours is cooked at 60° C
How is cold pressed food different from kibble?
Production method – Kibble is extruded at high pressure then cooked at high temperatures while cold pressed dry food is pressed then slow cooked under minimum heat, retaining all those lovely nutrients.
Ingredients – Cold pressed food typically doesn’t contain fillers, and ours definitely doesn’t. NAKEDDOG Cold Pressed food contains the same quality human-grade ingredients that go into our NAKEDDOG Raw Food recipes. Every recipe is rich in protein, with added vegetables, fruits, vitamins, minerals, and healthy omega-rich oils.
The way it’s cooked means that your dog gets all that nutritious goodness and nothing else. It’s highly palatable too, making it perfect for picky eaters.
Digestion – Because cold pressed dog food is minimally processed, it is more easily digested, so it’s particularly perfect for dogs with sensitive stomachs. It also softens easily when you add a little water, so senior dogs may find it easier to chomp on!
Texture – While kibble is rock-hard, cold pressed food has a softer texture, so senior dogs and dogs with dental issue will love it! And before you assume that munching on traditional kibble might help keep teeth clean, it’s actually not the case. Most kibble crunching happens instantly, before having any significant ‘abrasive’ effect on your dog’s teeth. Kibble is generally high in refined carbohydrates and starches too, which break down into sugars that can stick to teeth and encourage plaque and tartar build up.
How much cold pressed food should I feed my dog
The recommended amount of food per day for an adult dog is approximately 12g of bodyweight in young and very active dogs. But remember, this is just a rough guide – always keep an eye on your dog’s weight and condition and adjust their portions accordingly.
If you’re switching from traditional kibble and feel like it suddenly looks like there’s less food in your dog’s bowl, you’re probably right. Just like NAKEDDOG raw food, our cold pressed recipes are nutrient-dense. Our cold pressed food is also not ‘expanded’ in the cooking process as kibble often is, so you don’t need to feed as much.

Can puppies eat cold pressed food?
Yes! NAKEDDOG cold pressed food is suitable for every age, size, and breed of dog. Our helpful feeding guide (above) will help you work out how much you need to feed. Just remember, it’s just a guide – all puppies are different!
How to store cold pressed food
Just like any dry food, NAKEDDOG cold pressed food can be safely stored in a cool, dry place. It doesn’t have to be kept in in the fridge as our raw food must be (and consumed within four days!).
How to transition to cold pressed food
Most dogs will switch straight on to our cold pressed food without any issues – it’s all-natural and easily digestible, after all. But we recommend changing over slowly, to ensure that they adjust okay and you can feel confident about the switch.
Day 1-3: Switch 25% of current food
Day 4-6: Switch 50% of current food
Day 7-9: Switch 75% of current food
Day 9+: Feed 100% of NAKEDDOG cold pressed
If you are switching to and from raw food, remember that on a dry diet, your dog may drink more water. As ever, always make sure they have access to a supply of fresh, clean water.
